At night the photo cell switches-on the light and at the first ray of sunshine it turns it off. On a solar security light, instead of the photocell you’ll find a motion detector which triggers the light when any movement is perceived. This is why this type of lights are called motion sensor lights.

Lighting is produced by halogen bulbs or LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). (LEDs are these tiny coloured lights that you can find on most electronic devices). They are commonly utilized in solar lighting technology, because they don’t use much power and they are extremely durable. Solar flood lights are equipped with a solar panel that can be installed away for allowing maximum sun exposure. The small solar panel converts the energy from the sun into DC electricity to charge a battery that will provide power to the light all night long. In general, 6 or 12 volts sealed batteries are used to provide adequate power to the light. When well charged, the lights can work all night long without any problem. There is no need to change the batteries very often, as they can last for two or three years.
